Chasing The Race Tour
March 6th (Day One) - Depart Anchorage (PANC) in the Dehavilland Beaver (Wheels Version) with four passengers and a full load of cargo. Fly to Talkeetna (PATK ), get the passengers settled into their hotel and fuel up the plane. Once ready, fire up the beaver and head for Skwentna (See Directions). Follow the lead mushers route through the Iditarod Trail and drop your passengers and cargo off at Skwentna (See Directions). Continue on to Finger Lake (See Directions), Rainy Pass (6AK), and Rohn (8KA) and drop off dog food and supplies. Fly back to Skwentna (See Directions) pick up the four passengers and fly them to Rainy Pass (6AK). Stay their until mushers reach the check point and then fly the passengers back to Talkeetna (PATK ) for an overnight stay. March 7th (Day Two) - Take on a full load of cargo, load the four passengers and their luggage up in the Beaver, fuel her up, and head for Nikolai (5NI). Follow the mushers as they cross over the Alaska Range. Make a short stop at Nikolai (5NI) to drop off some dog food and supplies, and to let the passengers cheer on their favorite mushers as they cross the check point. Then head to McGrath (PAMC) and put the passengers up for the night in the barracks at our base. March 8th (Day Three) - Fuel up the Beaver and load the four passengers up for a day of aerial spotting of the mushers. Depart McGrath (PAMC) and follow the Iditarod Trail back to Nikolai (5NI) and then return back to McGrath (PAMC) for another overnight stay in our base barracks. March 9th (Day Four) - Depart McGrath (PAMC) with the passengers and a full load of cargo in the Beaver, and head to Takotna (TCT). Drop off the passengers and some cargo there. Then head to Ophir (Z17) and Cripple (See Directions) to drop off some dog food and supplies and return to Takotna (TCT). Fuel the plane up, load up the passengers, and head to Ophir (Z17) and Iditarod (See Directions) checkpoints so the passengers can watch the mushers come through. Then head back to McGrath (PAMC) for one more night at the barracks. March 10th (Day Five) - Spend the day viewing the mushers along the trail. Depart McGrath (PAMC) with the passengers, their luggage, and a full load of cargo. Make stops at Shageluk (SHX), Anvik (PANV), Grayling (KGX), Eagle Island (See Directions), and Kaltag (KAL) checkpoints to drop off dog food and supplies. Then head for an overnight stay in the native coastal village of Unalakleet (PAUN) and experience the excitement and anticipation of the locals as they await the lead mushers. March 11th (Day Six) - Leave the passengers in Unalakleet (PAUN) as they watch and cheer on their favorite mushers. Depart Unalakleet (PAUN) and fly to McGrath (PAMC) to pick up a full load of cargo. From there fly to Shaktoolik (2C7), Koyuk (PAKK), Elim (ELI), and Golovin (GLV) checkpoints and drop off food and supplies. Then return to Unalakleet (PAUN) for an overnight stay. March 12th (Day Seven) - Depart Unalakleet (PAUN) with the four passengers and their luggage and head for Nome (94Z ). Fly over Shatoolik (2C7), Koyuk (PAKK), Elim (ELI), Golovin (GLV), White Mountain (WMO), and Safety (See Directions) checkpoints on the way. Get the passengers settled in to their hotel in Nome and load up full cargo and drop off food and supplies at White Mountain (WMO) and Safety (See Directions) checkpoints. Then return to Nome (94Z) for an overnight stay. March 13th (Day Eight) - Depart Nome (94Z) with the four passengers for a day of viewing the mushers from the air. Fly over Safety (See Directions), White Mountain (WMO), Golovin (GLV), and Elim (ELI) checkpoints. Then return to Nome (94Z) for an overnight stay. March 14th (Day Nine) - Celebrate with the four passengers as the winner crosses the finish line. When ready, load up the passengers and their luggage and depart Nome (94Z) for Anchorage (PANC) so they can catch their flight back home. |
