Bush Flying

Thanks to the efforts of scenery designers, many high-quality add-ons are available to make Flight Simulator very appealing to the bush pilot. These scenery additions (many available here) offer small "in country" flight destinations with detailed structures.

Bush flying for Shavron is a mixture of mission types. There are regular supply and passenger runs to the larger bush areas, and unscheduled client and supply delivery charters to the small camp locations serving outdoorsmen. Shavron will work to add bush locations and flights as we progress.

* * * *   CAUTION TO PILOTS   * * * *

Bush locations present challenging if not difficult operating environments. Know your aircraft's limitations. Limit fuel and payload to within safe margins for the target destination. Bad weather can make bush operation extremely hazardous - know when to turn around. Shavron depends upon your good judgment to keep yourself, your passengers and our aircraft out of the trees.

REMEMBER that pilots are expected to use full aircraft realism settings and real world weather for every flight!

Series A Bush Destinations

Hank's Trading Post and Alaska Trophy Tours

These flights require the download and installation of the Hank's and ATT scenery modules, available in the downloads area under the Hangar page on this site.

Shavron has just secured several contracts with the owners of Hank's Trading Post and the backwoods outfitter Alaska Trophy Tours. Pilots can help us fulfill our obligations by flying the following assignments.

Charter freight and passenger bush service -

Appropriate aircraft: DH-6 float and conventional, Bellanca Scout float and conventional, DH-2 Beaver, Lake Renegade, Aero Commander AC-500 freighter, Bell 205 helicopter. Pilot's choice of starting and ending locations serving the requirements of the smaller ATT bush destinations. Many of these are accessible by float plane or helicopter only.

Shavron recommends that pilots recon these locations to see firsthand the specific requirements of each destination. Note that up to a three-hour ATT recon flight falls under the classification of Approved Shavron Pilot Training and hence will be credited to the roster and paid. Simply submit this flight as "ATTrecon" in the flight number position and select the aircraft used from the aircraft drop-down list.

Alaska Trophy Tours (ATT) asks that Shavron pilots provide frequent service between the ATT base (ATT1) and each of the back country locations. Pilots are free to link multiple stops together. Expect the occasional offer of a meal of fresh trout or Caribou, especially if you fly in some beer to the more remote camps. As always, please keep track of your flight time and your fuel! Submit this flight as "ATTCharter" in the flight number position and select the aircraft used from the aircraft drop-down list.

Series B Bush Destinations

These flights require the download and installation of add-on scenery modules, available in the downloads area under the Hangar page on this site.

NOTE     NOTE      NOTE     NOTE     NOTE

Pilots are expected to recon these areas prior to flying commercial service. Each of these locations offers special challenges. Some are quite mild, while others can be very difficult. Most destinations offer pilots the choice of using floatplane or conventional gear craft. PLEASE take the time to thoroughly acquaint yourself with these locations. Shavron offers up to four recognized and paid flight hours filed as "Bush Recon" for the purpose of pilot familiarization with Series B bush destinations.

Naturally, aircraft such as the Bellanca, twin Otter and the Beaver are tailor made for these destinations but pilots may find that they can use other craft as well. Some of the AKR stations, for example, can handle much larger aircraft if you are up to the challenge. CHOICE OF AIRCRAFT FOR SERIES B BUSH DESTINATIONS IS AT PILOT'S DISCRETION.
